WORLD POPULATION DAY
World Population Day – July 11
World Population Day, observed every year on July 11, was established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989. The day aims to raise awareness about global population issues, including sustainability, health, poverty, gender equality, and access to education and reproductive healthcare.
With the world’s population surpassing 8 billion, the day encourages dialogue on how we can ensure a balanced and equitable future for all. It reminds us that population growth impacts everything from the environment to social structures—and that thoughtful planning and inclusive policies are essential.
This year's theme “On July 11, 2025, World Population Day highlights youth empowerment with a powerful theme: ‘Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world.’” the need for collective responsibility and innovation in managing the challenges of a growing global population.
